I had a few friends here or there but my main focus was nerd culture. I used to bury myself in comics and movies all the time when I was at home. I was an extreme introvert growing up, I was very intimidated by other children and had a hard time making friends due to the fact I was scared to put myself out there. We aren’t set in our ways and are always willing to evolve with the times. What sets us apart is we aren’t “just a comic book store.” We wear many hats at Meltdown and are always looking to the future and what’s going to be the next big thing. We are also entering the world of event planning and have thrown parties for people such as The Hard Rock Hotel in Vegas and Undefeated in Los Angeles with Microsoft. There’s really nothing we can’t do nor goal have we set that we haven’t accomplished. These classes are open to kids and adults. We also have our Geek U School which teaches up and coming artist and writers how to write and draw comics. ![]() Our theater also facilitates art shows that become big events in the Hollywood area. We also host comedy shows daily in our theater with big name comics such as Louis CK and Sarah Silverman. While we have been around for more than 2 decades we have had to constantly evolve with the changes in commerce as well as culture. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you? – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. A year ago around October I met Gaston and asked if he would want to work together and then we became business partners and I became part owner. Ever since I could drive I would go every day after school under the false pretense to my parents that I was going to after school tutoring. Not only does it provide comics and collectibles, but it is a free thinking, creative environment that encourages involvement and the means to express yourself. As I prepare to extinguish Sunset's neon know that there is a new path for me (more later) and I close Meltdown without any regret.
